Liverpool's victory over city rivals Everton looks to have thrust them into the box seat for Champions League qualification, and taken the pressure off Arne Slot. The dramatic late win, courtesy of a 100th-minute Virgil van Dijk header, has given the Reds a little breathing room over the chasing pack.
The 2-1 win has transformed the atmosphere around the club as Slot's team look to continue their good form against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday.
However, with such a disappointing season following major expenditure last summer on several new players, questions remain about the Liverpool manager.
Today's news sees club icon Jamie Carragher reveal what he's heard about Slot's position. Elsewhere, another Liverpool legend has been tipped to take over at the club in the future.
Jamie Carragher on Slot's future
Ex-Reds defender Carragher believes that Slot will remain in charge at Anfield this summer, provided they secure Champions League qualification for next season. The Reds are currently in fifth, the final spot for next season's competition, with Chelsea just behind them.
Securing a top five finish could safeguard Slot's position beyond this summer despite a rotten Premier League title defence. Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "Arne Slot's job has been spoken about all season. We've spoken about it a lot on Monday Night Football.
"There's probably a split in the Liverpool supporters over whether he should stay or go. But the noises I am hearing is Slot will be the Liverpool manager next season if they can secure Champions League qualification, which they look like doing right now."

Carragher also talked up the importance of Liverpool's derby win, especially after Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United the night before. Liverpool require nine more points from their remaining five Premier League fixtures to secure a top-five finish, regardless of what Chelsea or any other side below them manage to achieve.
Fernando Torres tipped for management job
Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been sensationally tipped to make a return to Anfield as manager. The 42-year-old enjoyed an iconic stint at Anfield, scoring 81 goals in 142 appearances before making a £50million switch to Chelsea in 2011.
The former Spanish international has embarked on a managerial career, taking charge of both Atletico Madrid's under-19 and B team setups after hanging up his boots in 2019.
Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Fernando Llorente has thrown his support behind the idea of Torres stepping into the Anfield hot seat one day. Speaking to Hajper, he said: "Fernando Torres as Liverpool manager one day? Definitely.
"He's taken a different path to Cesc Fabregas [at Serie A side Como] he has been patient and has preferred to start little by little with the youth team, gaining experience. I think Fernando will become a great coach because he had an incredible career, knows a lot about football and has surely been preparing for the right moment to make the jump."

Former Atletico coach Armando de la Morena was equally effusive in his praise of the ex-striker. Speaking to Marca, he said: "A coach like Fernando, knowing his career a bit, as a player and always with the respect that he has acted, has the conditions to be a great coach."
In 2024, Torres was given the opportunity to observe Jurgen Klopp during his final season at Liverpool. However, Atletico officials were worried the arrangement could develop into a permanent switch and intervened by offering him a new position.
It seems unlikely that Torres will become Liverpool manager anytime soon. Yet his name being in the mix should Slot leave the club, alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso, shows the Reds' previous crop of legends are carving out promising careers in the managerial game.
