Liverpool and England hero Michael Owen is no stranger to horse racing having founded his own Manor House Stables back in 2006.

Now the Ballon d'Or winner has revealed that their roster now includes a horse part-owned by current Anfield star Andy Robertson that is expected to make a splash at this year's Chester May Festival.

Trainer Hugo Palmer is preparing to debut Ancient Geordie as the festival, which takes place from May 6 to May 9.

Manor House Stables have already made an impressive start to the horse racing calendar, with two-year old Adaay Of Scarlett romping to success at a recent Newmarket Craven meeting.

Owen and Palmer have yet to decide which list their new horse will appear in but are excited about Ancient Geordie's chances of making a name for itself.

Speaking to Read Horse Racing, he said: "From our stable of horses, we have one which we are excited about which is a horse called Ancient Geordie, which actually is part owned by Andy Robertson of Liverpool.

"So we’re just looking at which race we will enter, but that is one to watch for sure."

Scotland skipper Robertson is set to call it quits after nine years on Merseyside when his contract runs out next summer.

Tottenham are reportedly in pole position to sign the left back on a free transfer on the condition that they avoid relegation from the Premier League.

And where they to make the drop from the top tier, former Scotland and Everton star Pat Nevin reckons the 32-year-old could be tempted with a return to boyhood club Celtic.

Speaking to Prime Casino, an online casino with a wide range of slots like Football Cash Collect Slot, he said: "It's a big step down [the Championship], but not in terms of being too posh to play that low, but the glory that he's had so many times, that's a big call.

"There are very, very few players of that ilk and that standard that, given the opposite, and the fact that we've heard that there's a possibility of staying in the top level in Spain, or staying in top level in Scotland, or staying in the top level somewhere else, it's such a temptation."
