From Italy: Alisson ‘skeptical’ of transfer as David de Gea emerges as rival

Alisson has been touted with a move to Italy in recent weeks with widespread reports claiming talks with Juventus – but the goalkeeper’s camp are “skeptical.”

Though Liverpool triggered a one-year extension to Alisson‘s contract last month, tying him to the club until 2027, speculation has continued over a summer exit.

In theory, a further 12 months on his deal would at least allow the club to secure a fee if the Brazilian were to depart and Giorgi Mamardashvili take over as No. 1.

Juventus have emerged as his most likely destination, but Tuttosport now reports that the situation may change following talks.

It is claimed that while the Serie A club would be happy to meet Liverpool’s asking price of around €15 million (£13m), Alisson‘s salary would be an issue.

Alisson is said to earn around £250,000 a week which, along with a signing-on bonus and agent fees, would be out of Juventus’ budget.

That has led to “skepticism from his own entourage” after “a series of discussions in recent weeks with several big Serie A clubs.”

Juventus may therefore turn their focus to former Man United goalkeeper David de Gea, who is set to leave Fiorentina at the end of the season.

De Gea, 35, would be available for a lower transfer fee of €10 million (£8.7m) while his wages are less than half that of Alisson, making him a “good compromise between [Luciano] Spalletti’s technical needs and the club’s financial resources.”

Liverpool’s goalkeeping options for 2026/27

If Alisson does price himself out of a move to Italy, it could lead to a continued stay at Liverpool, which would no doubt be preferable for most supporters.

Despite his ongoing injury issues, Alisson remains the best goalkeeper in Arne Slot‘s squad and has kept 13 clean sheets in 34 games this season, conceding 36 goals.

However, it seems unlikely that Mamardashvili would be happy to settle for a role as second choice for another season, having already gained considerable experience as a No. 1 with Valencia and Georgia.

Liverpool could also consider Vitezslav Jaros as a long-term option albeit with the Czech stopper currently sidelined with a serious knee injury.

Freddie Woodman is set to remain at the club next season with The Athletic‘s James Pearce reporting that his contract runs to 2027, despite previous claims he signed a one-year deal upon his arrival last summer.

Youngster Armin Pecsi has been linked with a loan to Sevilla but Liverpool’s plans for the 21-year-old are as yet unknown.
