Curtis Jones set a remarkable Premier League record in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton, with the Liverpool midfielder showing his clear value to the side.
Jones made it back-to-back Premier League starts as he was fielded at right-back for the Merseyside derby – producing an impressive display out of position.
Targeted by Everton‘s long balls early on the Scouser quickly settled and was crucial to the eventual 2-1 victory.
And according to Squawka, Jones set a record of 16 times winning possession, which is more than any other player in the entire Premier League campaign.
Curtis Jones won possession 16 times against Everton, the most by any player in a Premier League match this season.
The last player to record more was William Saliba in the 2023/24 campaign against Manchester United (17). https://t.co/C79NQhP28Q pic.twitter.com/7fK76te3CQ

West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes (10) is second on the list with seven other players having made eight recoveries in a single game this season.
William Saliba is the last player to win possession more times than Jones vs. Everton, with the Arsenal centre-back making 17 recoveries vs. Man United in 2023/24.

It speaks to Jones’ ongoing commitment in one of the most important games of the season for a boyhood Liverpool supporter from Toxteth.
Speaking to Viaplay after the game, the 25-year-old said: “As a Scouser, it is everything. To the team, it’s everything.
“I think if you join a team like this – Scouser or not – you always know what a game like this means. It’s the biggest game of my life, this.
“You know, this is a game that, of course, I always want to win – statement-wise, for the city. There’s always that, you know, it’s always about the rivalry in the city, if it’s red or blue.

“Because I’m on this side, so I’ll always support this side. But yeah, it’s a huge, huge game. Huge win so I’m happy.”
Jones may however have played his final Merseyside derby, with the midfielder entering the final year of his contract this summer and linked with a move away.
Inter Milan registered their interest in January but a mid-season transfer was dismissed, but unless a new deal is agreed the chances are that Liverpool will look to cash in on the only local-born player in the first team.
The Big Debate
What next for Curtis Jones?
Jones’ future at Anfield remains uncertain. With Inter Milan looming and the 25-year-old entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool face a massive decision: reward the midfielder with a new deal or cash in on the only Scouser left in the first team.
