Internal Everton concern shared as Idrissa Gueye contract issue mooted - insider

Everton hold a one-year extension option with Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Only a handful of games remain in the Premier League campaign and Everton have made no hint over the midfielder’s future yet.

Gueye has played another influential role under David Moyes this season, with the 36-year-old having racked up 24 Premier League starts.

Everton hold Idrissa Gueye wage concerns over contract extension

There’s a belief Everton need to reduce Gueye’s role over the coming months, with one club insider sharing Everton’s current contract concerns.

Speaking to A View From The Bullens’ Patreon, he shared Everton’s careful deliberation when it comes to extending Gueye’s deal.

There are no wrong answers here! They have all been sensational this season 🔥

But which two are you starting if you're Moyes? 🤷‍♂️

“His [Gueye’s] situation is more complex due to financial considerations,” he said.

“The Senegal international is on significantly higher wages than Keane and Mykolenko, and the club is carefully weighing all options before making a final call on his future.”

Everton are expected to activate Vitalii Mykolenko’s extension clause, which will see him remain on Merseyside for a further year.

The same is also expected for Michael Keane.

Everton must keep Idrissa Gana Gueye for another year

The Senegalese midfielder has become a permanent fixture in the Everton starting XI.

Although Gueye is one of Everton’s top earners, he also provides a lot, both on and off the pitch, with his leadership qualities.

There could well be a major drop-off in performance from Gueye over the next 12 months as he turns 37 years of age in September.

However, the midfielder is currently playing at a high level and it would be a bold decision from Everton to pass on keeping him around.

His wage may be an eye-raiser to some on Merseyside, but there would also be a significant cost to replace him with a summer signing.
