Liverpool could secure swift revenge against Barcelona after seemingly losing out on a move for Alessandro Bastoni. The Reds are among the clubs at the front of the queue for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
Arne Slot's side were among the teams said to be expressing interest in Inter's Bastoni. However, Barcelona look to be edging closer to wrapping up a deal for the centre-back.
Reports in Spain say that the groundwork for an agreement between the player and Barcelona has already been laid, with final sign-off from manager Hansi Flick still required. It's also suggested that Bastoni is prepared to do 'everything possible' to ensure the transfer happens.
Liverpool will be eager to bolster their central defensive options in the summer, having failed to secure a late swoop for Marc Guehi last year. Jeremy Jacquet will join up at Anfield, having wrapped up a transfer back in January, and Ibrahima Konaté is on the verge of penning a new contract with the club.
That relieves some of the urgency, meaning attention could potentially shift to other areas. Leipzig forward Diomande is a name that keeps being mentioned.
Barcelona were also showing interest, though Spanish outlet SPORT reports that the Catalan club are now willing to abandon their pursuit of signing the winger this summer, and switch their focus to alternative targets. That leaves Liverpool, alongside Chelsea and Manchester United, as the leading contenders for the forward during the transfer window.

Chelsea's absence from Champions League football next season could count against them. Leipzig are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of €100million (£87m). Remarks from Diomande himself back in January suggest the winger would favour a switch to Anfield this summer.
"I want to play for Liverpool. I'm a huge Liverpool fan," he said. "My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield!"
The 19-year-old has netted 13 goals and registered a further eight assists across 32 outings in all competitions for Leipzig this campaign.
