James Trafford transfer rumoured as Juventus want Alisson – Latest Liverpool FC News

While Alisson is reportedly wanted by Juventus this summer, fellow goalkeeper James Trafford is the subject of a rumour linking him to Liverpool.

Latest on goalkeepers: Trafford rumour & Alisson wanted

Though it seems highly unlikely to actually happen, Trafford is the latest to have had his name linked to a Liverpool transfer this summer.

GOAL report that Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle “have all expressed their interest in signing” the Man City goalkeeper.

At 22 years old, Trafford has a good level of experience but his top-flight career hasn’t accelerated as he wanted this year.

Having come through the Man City academy and moved to Burnley as a 20-year-old in 2023, he returned to Pep Guardiola’s squad last summer, expecting to be first-choice.

Soon after, however, Gianluigi Donnarumma signed for the club so Trafford has had to settle for domestic cup games in which in he has hardly put a foot wrong.

If Trafford is to leave Manchester, the most likely destination would surely be Newcastle given they almost signed him for £27 million last year.

In terms of a move to Liverpool, it would only become a possibility if Alisson were to leave, which could open up a spot to battle with Mamardashvili for the No. 1 shirt.

The Brazilian has one year left on his contract and is wanted by Juventus, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, but reports from Italy suggest Alisson is ‘skeptical’ of a move.

Ibrahima Konate may not have had a good season in Liverpool colours, but the news that he is close to signing a new contract still comes as a relief. Joanna Durkan explains why…

“While he might have shortcomings, which player does not, let’s not forget he is a player who ranks in the top three percent in the league for duels won (top five percent for aerial duels won), and the top nine percent for tackles.

“He knows what it means to represent the badge, how to achieve success, is a popular member of the squad, and, importantly, is the bridge between the present and future of Liverpool’s centre-back ranks.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

Just one of many nerve-shattering knockout ties with Chelsea during Rafa Benitez‘s tenure, on April 23, 2006 Liverpool played the Londoners at Old Trafford in an FA Cup semi-final.

A brilliant John Arne Riise free-kick got Liverpool off to a great start and Luis Garcia’s stunning volley, after the break, meant Didier Drogba’s header wasn’t enough to get Jose Mourinho’s side back in the game.

The final was even more uncomfortable, with Steven Gerrard producing the performance of a generation to get Liverpool to penalties against West Ham so Pepe Reina could make himself the hero.
