Everton have a solid midfield department, but it could use a bit of freshening up.
Idrissa Gueye has been a stalwart for David Moyes this season – making 24 starts in the Premier League – although the Senegal international turns 37 in September.
The Everton No.27 may even be released soon, as his £120,000-a-week contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium expires this summer.
The Friedkin Group are keeping an eye on potential midfield reinforcements, and there has now been a positive update regarding one target in Gustavo Hamer at Sheffield United.
Everton fans, how do you feel about our European football prospects now with five games to go? 🤔
The defeat to Liverpool was a sickener, but we're still right in the mix! 🙏

Chris Wilder concedes that Sheffield United are willing to sell Gustavo Hamer
Turkish news outlet Kuzey Ekspres revealed back in March that Everton want to sign Hamer and are preparing a bid for the Sheffield United No.8 – revealing the news when stating that Trabzonspor also hope to land his signature.
When asked by BBC Sport whether the Blades are planning to sell the 28-year-old this summer, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said: “I think it’s the same as it always will be. If we have to sell a player or two, we will do, as long as we don’t give them away.
“That’s my take on it. We have to raise money. The owners put a lot of money in to buy the football club, they put a lot of money in in terms of investment at the start of the season.”

Hamer – who Enzo Maresca admires – will only have 12 months left on his contract at the end of this season, so Sheffield United are not exactly in the best negotiating position.

The aforementioned Kuzey Ekspres believe the Blades value the Everton target at a sum of £17m – narrowly more than the £15m spent to sign him from Coventry back in August 2023.
It will be tough for Sheffield United to receive £17m for a player who is available for free in 2027 – although his excellent performances this season could tempt Everton to cough up the cash.
Hamer has excelled in midfield amid a difficult season for the Blades, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

With Moyes in need of a reliable talisman up top – which is where we feel most of the summer budget should be spent – this potential £17m deal would be a fairly cheap way for Everton to freshen up the midfield department.
