Di Marzio: Milan and Bayern Munich battle for Vlahovic as Juventus turn to Lewandowski

AC Milan remain an option for Dusan Vlahovic if he does not renew with Juventus, who in turn are targeting Robert Lewandowski.

One of the certainties regarding Milan’s summer transfer window is that a new centre-forward is needed, and virtually every name under the sun has been linked. Vlahovic has been among the most insistent, along with Lewandowski, Moise Kean and more recently Alexander Sorloth.

Milan, Juventus, Lewandowski and Vlahovic

In an update on Sky, Gianluca Di Marzio gave an update on the future of Vlahovic. If the Serbian striker doesn’t renew his contract with Juventus, both Milan and Bayern Munich could try to acquire him on a free transfer, given his deal expires in just over two months.

Speaking of which, Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski has a contract that also expires at the end of June. He has been linked with Milan but the Pole could be more of an option for the Bianconeri than the Rossoneri, as they want to strengthen their attack with an experienced profile.

One thing to bear in mind is that at Bayern Vlahovic would be a back-up to Harry Kane and a replacement for Nicolas Jackson, Di Marzio adds. At Milan, however, the former Fiorentina star would be a guaranteed starter, which could help their case.

This season, Vlahovic has been plagued by injuries, particularly a high-grade tear to his left adductor longus muscle and a low-grade tear to his left calf soleus muscle. The result has been a campaign with 18 games and eight goals, which isn’t enough for someone earning €12m net.

Di Marzio’s words in full

Speaking on Sky, he said: “Vlahovic is another one of those players whose contracts are expiring, like Goretzka, Lewandowski, Bernardo Silva… This year, there are many really strong players whose contracts are expiring, who can be acquired without negotiating with the clubs.

“Vlahovic is a concern. If he doesn’t renew with Juve, we know the respect Allegri has always had for him. Milan also tried to sign him last summer, so we’ll have to figure out where Valhovic ends up. Will he stay at Juve or if he can return to Milan.

“Bayern Munich are also considering him as an alternative to Kane, as an attacking player they can acquire, given that Jackson is on loan and has a very high buy-out figure. There’s also the issue of Lewandowski, who is negotiating a renewal with Barcelona.

“But if he doesn’t renew there, he’s another player Milan and Juve can decide to take a chance on. Perhaps more so Juve, Milan don’t want to take on all those players with higher ages.”
