James Trafford attracting Liverpool interest

Liverpool is reportedly among seven Premier League clubs showing interest in Manchester City’s James Trafford ahead of the summer transfer window.

Trafford’s story this season is one of genuine frustration. He returned to the Etihad last summer after two strong seasons at Burnley – including a promotion campaign in which he conceded just 16 goals in 46 Championship games – fully expecting to step into the No. 1 role following Ederson’s departure to Fenerbahce.

He started City’s opening three Premier League fixtures, but Pep Guardiola’s late move for Gianluigi Donnarumma, signed for £26 million after his Champions League-winning exploits with PSG, brought that run to an abrupt end.

Trafford has not started a single Premier League game since, limited to cup appearances across 14 outings in total.

As a result, he is set to be on the move this summer. According to a report from GOAL, Liverpool are among the frontrunners to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford this summer — with Chelsea also leading the chase. In total, six Premier League clubs have registered interest in the 23-year-old, with Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa also monitoring his situation.

He has conducted himself well in difficult circumstances, producing a stunning triple save in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal, and is set to start the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton at Wembley — but that is unlikely to be enough to keep him at the Etihad if regular football is on the table elsewhere.

“I didn’t expect the situation [with Donnarumma] to happen, but it happened, so just get on with it,” Trafford said back in February.

“It’s happened so I work very hard every day and see what happens, give it my best shot. It’s football, it is what it is, you’ve got to keep grafting every day and the games that come, play as hard as you can. It’s just another experience to add to my career and it has been good learning.”

Alisson’s future this summer could be contingent on whether the Anfield club decide to move for Trafford, who has been linked to Juventus despite signing a one-year contract extension.
