Aston Villa have identified an unhappy Liverpool star as a potential summer signing as he ponders an exit from Anfield, according to broadcast giant talkSPORT.

Unai Emery's side currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with five games remaining, and have already reached the Europa League semi-finals after a 7-1 aggregate demolition of Bologna, where they will lock horns with Nottingham Forest for a place in the Istanbul final.

With European football at the top level potentially on the horizon, Emery, NSWE and Robert Olabe are understood to be planning significant additions to his squad.

Midfield is a key area of focus.

Boubacar Kamara's return from a serious knee injury remains uncertain, while Morgan Rogers has been linked with several top-six sides.

Against that backdrop, Villa are reportedly drawing up a list of potential targets to bolster their options in the centre of the park.

The Villans want to strike yet another reunion.

Lucas Bergvall of Tottenham, Galatasaray's Gabriel Sara and Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries are all rumoured to have been identified as potential additions.

Bergvall was a target in January, when both Villa and Chelsea made approaches for the Swede, only for Tottenham to flatly refuse.

Now, as per talkSPORT, Liverpool's Curtis Jones has been added to their list.

Villa identify Liverpool's Curtis Jones as potential summer signing

According to their information, the 25-year-old is seriously pondering a Liverpool exit this summer, and is believed to be 'frustrated' by his lack of first-team action at Anfield this season.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones

Jones has racked up 44 appearances across all competitions this season, though a significant number have come from the bench, and he has started just 13 league matches.

He is believed to be unhappy with his fringe role at Anfield and is keen to secure regular first-team football elsewhere, with talkSPORT claiming Villa have identified Jones as a potential summer recruit.

Inter Milan explored a deal in January, while Newcastle and Tottenham have also registered interest (TEAMtalk).

However, Villa's established working relationship with Liverpool — partly built through last summer's Harvey Elliott loan — may give them an advantage in negotiations.

Jones has scored two goals and provided two assists in 43 appearances for Liverpool this season.

His ability to operate across midfield and at right-back offers the kind of versatility that would appeal to Emery as he plans for a demanding schedule on multiple fronts next term.

The Englishman, who has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League winner's medal at Liverpool, boasts 223 appearances for the Reds since making his senior debut in 2019 against Wolves.
