Harry Wilson urged to snub Liverpool for 'no-brainer' Premier League transfer this summer

Harry Wilson is approaching the end of his contract at Fulham, and Aston Villa would be an ideal next destination.

That's the view of Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor, who advised the Welshman to avoid a possible return to Liverpool despite his impressive season.

Wilson has been the star man for Fulham since signing in 2021, with 36 goals and 45 assists coming across 182 appearances.

He is their top scorer this season with 11 goals, and was the subject of interest from Everton towards the end of the January window.

Fulham rejected their approach, but now look set to lose the 29-year-old for nothing as his contract expires on June 30.

With his stock high, Wilson is likely to have plenty of interest from top Premier League clubs ahead of the summer.

Agbonlahor wants him at his beloved Villa, as he hinted that Liverpool, where Wilson was an academy star, would not offer enough minutes.

"Very good footballer," he described the Welsh winger on Breakfast for talkSPORT.

"There's talk that maybe Aston Villa, on a free transfer. 29 years of age, suits Aston Villa this summer because I'm not sure they'll have big, big money to spend.

"Free transfer, not ridiculous wages as well. Ten goals, six assists so far this season in the Premier League, some screamers as well.

"He fits into that Aston Villa style, even if he plays off one of the wings, sometimes they come in. (John) McGinn does, as we've seen (Morgan) Rogers do, or (Emi) Buendia.

"Harvey Elliott will obviously go back to Liverpool, so Aston Villa will probably be left with Buendia who has had some good games but he's not consistent.

"So, it just makes sense to play under a manager like Unai Emery. You're going to a club that, fingers crossed, are fighting for titles, they're going to be in the Champions League.

"If you're Harry Wilson, it's a no-brainer because if he tries to look at maybe a Liverpool... Chelsea, but maybe a Liverpool, maybe he doesn't start enough games.

"But at Aston Villa, he will get more starts. I think that move makes sense for him and Aston Villa."

Wilson set for European debut?

As Agbonlahor mentioned, Villa are on course to qualify for the Champions League as they sit fourth in the Premier League.

Now that fifth also offers a route into the competition, they have an eight-point safety gap above the chasing pack.

Should he join Villa, Wilson could be set for his first ever appearances in the Champions League.

He played six matches in the UEFA Youth League during his time in the Liverpool academy, scoring one goal and assisting four others.

However, he has never stepped onto the pitch in a senior European competition during his career so far.
