There was plenty of tribalism on show before and after the Merseyside derby, as Everton ruffled a few feathers.
Liverpool fans disputed the fact Paul McCartney supported Everton after a tifo of The Beatles was displayed prior to the match, while Iliman Ndiaye appeared to shout “we built this city” after scoring his goal, which was later disallowed for offside.
Liverpool have now delivered a new retort after winning the Merseyside derby – which Jamie Carragher felt was undeserved – through the medium of music as players arrived at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday morning.

Liverpool blare out ‘We Built This City’ by Starship during training
Everton‘s bitter rivals have now seemingly attempted to wind the Toffees up by playing ‘We Built This City’ through the speakers as Liverpool players arrived for training.
It can be heard after 33 seconds of a video posted by Liverpool on X (previously known as Twitter).
Incidentally, Everton Football Club existed before Liverpool were even founded.

The Reds were born out of a disagreement between the directors of Everton Football Club and John Houlding – President of the Toffees at the time – in March 1892.
There was a dispute over who owned Anfield, prompting Everton to move to Goodison Park and leave Houlding alone with Anfield, eventually founding a new club in Liverpool to fill the stadium.
In that respect, there is no argument about who “built” the footballing scene on Merseyside.
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike also engaged in mockery towards Everton after the game.
The France international posted an edited photo of the Hill Dickinson Stadium, in which the name had been changed to the Hill Dijkinson Stadium following the late winner from Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool may have won this particular battle, but as Arne Slot sits fifth in what is one of the worst ever defences of a Premier League title, the Reds should be worrying about other things instead of mocking Everton.
