Virgil van Dijk claims Arne Slot will still be in charge of Liverpool for pre-season

Liverpool have endured a difficult second season under Arne Slot.

The Dutchman got off to the best possible start - winning the Premier League title in his maiden campaign. But it has been a different story this term - with Liverpool battling just to qualify for the Champions League via their league position.

It has led to speculation that the 47-year-old could be relieved of his duties - with no shortage of candidates lined up to replace him.

Under contract until 2027 Slot’s future has been shrouded in doubt - but reports have always suggested that FSG were preparing to stick by their most recent coaching appointment.

Despite the team’s perceived underperformanceclub bosses are likely to give Slot another chanceto get things right.

Van Dijk confirms Slot will be staying

And Virgil van Dijk - the Liverpool captain - has now more or less confirmed that Slot will be head coach of the team in the 2026/27 season.

“After the World Cup, in pre-season, it will be an interesting development in terms of how the manager sees it as well and then we have to tackle the season in the best way possible and not have a season like we have had this season again,” he is reported to have said by the Times.

So Liverpool’s captain clearly believes that when he returns for preseason training that Slot will still be in charge.

This tallies with recent reports from trusted sources which suggest that FSG are ready to go against fan wishes and persist with the former Feyenoord boss.
