LFC Foundation and Forever Reds rally behind a foodbank after Anfield theft

The charities donation bucket was stolen from Anfield

Liverpool FC has come together to support a charity after one if its fundraising buckets was stolen from outside of Anfield.

The club's official charity, the LFC Foundation, and Forever Reds - the club’s former players association - have donated £5,000 to Fans Supporting Foodbanks following the theft.

The theft, which took place ahead of the Paris Saint-Germain game on 14 April, prompted an immediate outpouring of support from the local community and the wider club family.

It says the donation "underlines Liverpool FC’s ongoing commitment" to its local communities and acknowledges "the essential work Fans Supporting Foodbanks do, especially on match days to tackle food poverty across Liverpool and beyond".

Last season LFC Foundation supported 145,617 people, with more than half coming from the top 20% most-deprived areas in the country.

Through its Red Neighbours initiative, the Foundation also donated over £500,000 in essential food hampers, stadium tours, and matchday experiences, as well as providing 1,000 free meals per week to local people.

Matt Parish, CEO of LFC Foundation, said: “Fans Supporting Foodbanks are an outstanding example of the power of football to make a positive difference in our communities.

"Their volunteers give so much of their time to help others, and the work they do is more important than ever. We’re proud to support them alongside Forever Reds and to stand with them following this incident.”

The Foundation supported the delivery of 1,000 free meals per week, prepared by the LFC kitchens, to community member.

Forever Reds Chair, John Aldridge, said: "I’m incredibly proud that Forever Reds can support this great cause. Fans Supporting Foodbanks do unbelievable work week in, week out, and when something like this happens, we all must pull together and show what Liverpool Football Club is really about.

"This is a brilliant initiative run by amazing people, and we’re delighted to be able to help.”
