Liverpool could finally sign €60m Portuguese star after years of flirting

Liverpool could be preparing to make their long-awaited move for Goncalo Inacio, with fresh reports suggesting the club are ready to commit serious funds to finally land the Portuguese defender.

The Liverpool recruitment has admired Inacio for several years, but a deal has never quite materialised.

Now, that situation could be about to change, with the Reds reportedly willing to spend around €60m (£52m) to secure his signature.

Liverpool could finally sign Inacio after years of flirting

Liverpool’s interest in Inacio is far from new.

The centre-back has consistently been linked with a move to Anfield since emerging as one of the standout defenders at Sporting Lisbon, impressing with his composure on the ball and ability to play in a possession-based system.

Reports from Apito Final indicate Liverpool have continued monitoring his development closely, viewing him as a natural stylistic fit for their defensive structure. The report claims Liverpool would be willing to spend €60m (£52m) to complete this transfer. If true, it would take the Reds’ centre-back spending to £112m for the summer transfer window ahead.

Liverpool will also welcome Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield in the summer, with the teenager arriving from Rennes in a £60m deal.

Apito Final goes on to add that Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all vying for Inacio’s signature.

It’s reported that Liverpool, United and Chelsea are all prepared to enter a bidding war, so his £52m asking price might soar over the summer.

The 2025-26 season has been one of defensive incompetence for Liverpool

It would never have been predicted that Liverpool’s defence would collapse the season after Trent Alexander-Arnold left. While the Scouser’s creativity and vision have been sorely missed this season, he left a lot of defensive work undone.

This season, however, Liverpool have lost 18 times, conceding a total of 43 goals in 33 Premier League games so far.

Virgil van Dijk is still an elite defender, but even he cannot offset the mistakes around him all the time. Ibrahima Konate has been a total liability of a partner this season, regularly shooting himself and the team in the foot.

The Frenchman is close to signing a new deal with Liverpool but he will need to improve drastically next season, or he will struggle to play regularly if a top defender like Inacio is signed in the summer.
