Liverpool's dream summer signing emerges in the form of "outstanding" £85m star - journalist

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is considered Liverpool’s “dream” summer signing, according to an update from reliable journalist Lewis Steele.

It is going to be interesting to see who the Reds sign in the middle of the park when the summer transfer window opens, with fresh legs badly needed in that area of the pitch.

Wharton has arguably been linked with a move to Liverpool more than any other midfielder this season, with the £85m-rated England international a player with an enormous amount of potential.

Now, The Daily Mail‘s reliable Steele reports that the 22-year-old is the Premier League champions’ No.1 midfield target as things stand:

“I think the 22-year-old is the dream midfield acquisition for Liverpool: a Spanish-like pass-master, good off the ball and the right age profile. The only worry would be the injury record. It sounds like Elliot Anderson, who is another many mention, is bound for Manchester City. Let’s see what money is available in terms of midfielders – and who departs.”

Is Adam Wharton to Liverpool more inevitable than possible?

At this point, it would arguably be a surprise if Wharton didn’t end up as a Liverpool player this summer, especially if Elliot Anderson joins Manchester City, as Steele predicts.

The Palace ace will surely be eyeing a step up in his career and is good enough to star for the Reds, having been hailed by England teammate Declan Rice, who has said of him:

“He’s been outstanding. In training, he impressed a lot of the players. He’s so composed and calm on the ball. He played his first half of the season in the Championship, he’s [come into the England team] from Crystal Palace now. He’s got a beautiful left foot, really crisp passing. And all round, just a really down-to-earth boy who wants to learn.”

Liverpool lack a midfield controller with class in possession from deep, but Wharton has that in abundance, having a left foot that is the envy of most footballers.

He is also effective out of possession, though, possessing more legs than the out-of-sorts Alexis Mac Allister – he has averaged 2.1 tackles per game in the Premier League this season – and while he won’t be cheap, his arrival would feel so exciting.
