Edon Zhegrova
Over the past few months, Edon Zhegrova’s struggles at Juventus have led to Everton interest in the winger. His Juve situation is now looking increasingly difficult for the Kosovo international.
Late in January, the Toffees came forward for Zhegrova. This was covered by the Italian and British press but the move was rejected.
More recently, Sport Witness covered Everton’s interest in a summer deal. Calciomercato IT seemed convinced that the ex-Lille player has no future in Turin, having struggled since joining.
Since then, things haven’t improved. In fact, Zhegrova has played less than 90 minutes in Serie A since the end of January, featuring for only 18 minutes at the weekend against Bologna.
Luciano Spalletti is unhappy with the player, which can help the Merseyside club.
Spalletti might want Zhegrova out
Calciomercato believe the player will never forget the game against Bologna.
This is because he ‘did everything he shouldn’t have done’. That is how Spalletti saw his performance, as Zhegrova was poor with his crossing twice, also losing the ball as many times.
This left Juve exposed to the counter-attack, when they should’ve ideally held on to the ball. As a result, Spalletti is not happy with the player.
These question marks are in line with Juve’s doubts about the winger’s personality and off-field behaviour. That is why the Kosovo international will not get too many opportunities before the end of the season.
While the 27-year-old wants to prove himself, Juve may not help him. Actually, Zhegrova has informed his agents to wait if any offers come in. But the Bianconeri will not wait – especially if a suitor like Everton makes an approach again.
To avoid a capital loss, they need €11.4m. An exit is on the cards, even if the player wants to change his perception in Turin.
Our take: Maverick winger would be a risky signing
Zhegrova boasts a lot of technical ability – probably more than any other Juve player. Even CM make that clear in their report, while raising doubts about his attitude.
This makes him quite a risky player, who was very impressive in a lot of big games at Lille. One of his standout games actually came against Juve themselves in the Champions League but he hasn’t been the same since.
Because of injuries, Zhegrova is a shadow of himself and has limited pace and intensity. His technical level is the same but he doesn’t cover as much distance.
That makes Everton a risky move, especially since wide players complete a lot of sprints in the Premier League. But the fee for him is low, which can make him tempting.
