What positions do Everton need to address this summer?

With Jarrad Branthwaite suffering another setback, does this change Everton's stance in the summer transfer window? If theBluesachieve European football, do they have the squad for it, or will they need to bulk out?

Full-back reinforcements needed

The biggest area that needs addressing is at full-back. Vitalii Mykolenko is out of contract in the summer; meanwhile, summer signingAdam Aznou has failed to get a look in.

Mykolenko has been at the club since 2022 and has been a consistent regular since his arrival from Dynamo Kyiv.

Signed from Bayern Munich, Aznou has only featured once for the Blues, which came against Sunderland in the FA Cup, where the 19-year-old won Everton a penalty, which took the game to extra-time.

It's been the same recurring issue at right-back with Seamus Coleman, only appearing 20 times across the past three seasons. Nathan Patterson has struggled for minutes.

Since David Moyes returned to the football club, Jake O'Brien has been occupying the right-back position, but with the Branthwaite injury, is it finally time that the 6ft 6 defender gets a run in his natural position?

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane have both signed contract extensions, but the club could potentially start looking at bringing in a centre-half, as Branthwaite has had a season plagued with injuries.

Midfield depth provides foundation

Depth-wise, Everton are strongest in midfield. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been a key signing who has contributed to 11 goals. James Garner has stood out in the first season at Hill Dickinson, which earned him an England call-up.

Idrissa Gana Gueye has been consistent for the Blues, and has featured 24 times for**David Moyes's** side, who is out of contract in the summer. The 36-year-old has made 110 recoveries and had a 87.1% pass completion.

Harrison Armstrong was recalled from Preston North End in January and has featured 11 times since returning. The 19-year-old hasn't featured in Everton's last three games, and the club must decide what the next step is for the youngster.

Merlin Rohl has shown a glimpse of what he can bring to the side, but has struggled for minutes as he hasn't featured in nine out of 11 matches for the Blues. In the two matches he did feature in, Rohl was a late substitute against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Tim Iroegbunam has started 13 times out of 24 games and has shown his defensive qualities. So far the midfielder has made 53 tackles, 63 recoveries and has only been dribbled past six times this season.

Carlos Alcaraz has struggled of late due to injury, but is another option for Everton, and is a goal threat.

Does Everton need a new striker?

Another position which could be targeted in the summer is centre-forward. Beto has reclaimed his starting position as Everton's starting striker and has six goals in his last ten games.

Despite this rich vein of form, Moyes may want to address the striker position to provide fresh competition.

Signed from Villarreal last summer, Thierno Barry has had a challenging campaign. It took till December for the 23-year-old to get his first goal for the club, which came against Nottingham Forest.

The turn of the year looked promising for Barry as he scored four goals, including two clever finishes against Aston Villa and Leeds United.

Since his winner against Newcastle, the Frenchman has struggled and hasn't started since the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

This summer is another rebuild for Everton, and with European football potentially on the cards, it provides the club with an opportunity to invest, but with potential outgoing, it's a careful reminder that Everton must walk before they can run.
