West Ham United have only ever won seven games with Stuart Attwell as referee, and it’s he who takes charge of their Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants as many things going in his and West Ham’s favour as possible right now, as their massive relegation run-in continues.

Everton are in town this Saturday, as David Moyes brings his Toffees team to the London Stadium for a reunion with the Hammers faithful.

With just two points separating them and Tottenham in 18th, every point gained and dropped could make all the difference at this stage of the season.

So, with just five matches to play, West Ham will look at games against the likes of Brentford and Arsenal to come knowing that three points against Everton would be invaluable to their survival efforts.

Why West Ham will be happy with Stuart Attwell vs Everton

The man in the middle for Saturday’s game between West Ham and Everton will be the experienced 43-year-old, Attwell.

Attwell took West Ham’s 2-1 loss to Leeds in October 2025 as his last Hammers game, and that defeat continued an unwanted trend when the Nuneaton-born referee oversees the Irons.

As detailed by Transfermarkt, West Ham have lost five of their last six Premier League games with Attwell in the middle, dating back to March 2023.

In that time, they’ve lost to Leeds, Chelsea, Fulham, Everton and Brighton, with their only draw coming against Saturday’s opponents in November 2024.

However, interestingly enough, West Ham’s last win with Attwell as referee also came against Everton, and that was via a 2-0 victory in January 2023.

On top of that, the Irons also claimed victory in the previous Everton clash with Attwell is the man with the whistle in October 2021.

It has been two years since Stuart Attwell last officiated a Nottingham Forest match.

That’s no coincidence.

Perhaps then, Attwell is a lucky charm for the Hammers when they come up against the Toffees, and so despite their dismal run of form with him in charge, they surely won’t mind seeing his name on the PGMOL referee booking list for this weekend.

What is Everton’s record with Attwell?

A lucky charm he may well be for West Ham when it comes to playing Everton, but he’s been a sweet sight in the middle for the Toffees in recent times too.

That’s because Everton have won three-straight games with him as referee, and haven’t lost with Attwell in charge in five matches respectively.

Their last loss with him as referee came in August 2024 against Bournemouth, and have an overall record of 14 wins, seven draws and 12 defeats from 33 games with him holding the whistle.

So, something has to give on Saturday, but will the football gods (or is it refereeing in this case?) rule in West Ham’s or Everton’s favour? Let’s hope it’s the former!
