Liverpool transfer news round-up: ‘Dream' signing named, three players could leave and more

Liverpool continue to be linked with a number of players as the 2025/26 season nears its end and the summer transfer window approaches.

There is the small matter of beating Crystal Palace and widening the gap in the race for Champions League football for Arne Slot and co. to deal with on Saturday.

But the transfer chiefs at Liverpool seem to be already working hard to strengthen the squad going into next season, with updates on Adam Wharton, Rafael Leao and more in the last day or so.

With Arne Slot expected to stay, will Liverpool challenge for the Premier League next season?

Or will it be another difficult campaign? 😬

Adam Wharton a ‘dream’ signing for Liverpool

Among the areas expected to be strengthened during the 2026 summer transfer window is central midfield.

On that front, a number of clubs are looking at Adam Wharton, who is thought to be available for around £80m this summer.

The Reds are interested, and the Englishman is viewed as a ‘dream midfield acquisition’ by the Merseyside outfit.

Aside from Wharton, Kees Smit and Archie Gray are on Liverpool’s radar as potential options as well.

Rafael Leao is a wanted man

Reports earlier this week claimed that the Reds are targeting Rafael Leao, with a possible £60m transfer fee mooted.

Since then, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the interest in Leao, saying some Premier League teams have made calls for the AC Milan winger.

He said: “There are many rumours coming from England about Premier League clubs.

“I can tell you that some Premier League clubs have made calls to understand the situation, how much do AC Milan want, the salary situation.

“There’s been two Premier League clubs, from what I heard, calling to understand the situation. We are not talking about official proposals, official negotiations, but Premier League clubs have started making calls.”

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Three midfielders could leave Liverpool

While much of fans’ focus will be on incomings, let’s not forget that exits could be on the cards as well.

We already know that Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah will call time on their Liverpool careers this summer.

Meanwhile, one journalist did not rule out exits for all of Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo this summer.

Liverpool linked to Denzel Dumfries again

Liverpool were linked with Denzel Dumfries over the winter after Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong both picked up injuries.

Now, a move for the Dutchman, who can play as a right-back, centre-back and wing-back, has been mooted again.

Heading into the summer, Liverpool are aware of Dumfries’ situation, with the Inter Milan ace thought to have a release clause of £21.7m.
