Everton must now pay 400% more for midfielder Sean Dyche wanted in 2023, amid reports

Everton are showing an interest in Rennes midfielder Jordan James.

Angus Kinnear and his recruitment staff already have their eye on the summer transfer window, despite not knowing whether Everton will be playing European football.

Everton have identified James as an option following Leicester City’s relegation, which has cancelled the Foxes’ option to buy the youngster from Rennes.

Which of these players do you want to see Everton SIGN in 2026?

Everton will have to pay considerably more to sign Jordan James

Midfield is an area that Everton are looking to strengthen, with a number of potential targets already being mooted.

James is a player who Everton identified back in 2023 as a target, according to Alan Nixon.

The midfielder was playing for Birmingham City back then before he made the £4m move to Ligue 1 side Rennes.

A massive opportunity was missed for Everton and Sean Dyche to secure themselves a bargain, with James’ price tag having increased massively since.

Rennes are now looking to bring in £20m for the Englishman this summer, which is a far cry from the £4m they signed him for in 2024.

Michael Keane is expecting more impressive Everton signings this summer as the Blues target European football.

Although Leicester have already been relegated to League One, James picked up the EFL Young Player of the Season award.

Whether James would excite Everton fans is another question, but it would certainly take the club to swallow some pride if they were to spend £20m on their long-term target.
