Tyrique George must be excited after what David Moyes said in his press conference (opinion)

Tyrique George looks set to leave Everton and return to Chelsea this summer, as things stand.

The England U21 international has simply not played enough to impress David Moyes and convince The Friedkin Group to trigger the purchase option in the terms of his loan – believed to be worth around £25m.

Tyrique George has only made one start for Everton since arriving at the beginning of February, with substitute appearances creating a total of 130 minutes.

However, an opportunity to lead the line could be on the horizon after Moyes hinted he does not entirely trust Thierno Barry to replace the concussed Beto.

What would your message to Moyes be over starting Thierno Barry vs West Ham? 🫣

David Moyes opens the door for a wildcard option to replace Beto up top

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the trip to West Ham, the Glaswegian said: “I’ve got other people that I think could do it, so I could consider them (instead).”

We believe Tyler Dibling is worth testing out in a central role leading the line, given his promising record in that area and with Everton running out of time to make sure this £40m investment comes good.

However, Lee Carsley – manager of the England U21 side – has previously backed George to have a future as a striker.

Back in October, the 40-year-old said: “He’s got the profile and attributes to develop into a traditional number nine. A lot of that development I would imagine will go on at Chelsea. He’s fast. He scores goals. He’s creative. He’s got good technique.”

Could we see George as a number nine? 😮

George stands at 6ft 1in and has previously made 11 appearances as a striker throughout his career, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

As things stand, the 20-year-old probably hasn’t done enough out wide to convince Everton to spend £25m on his signature this summer.

However, sometimes a player just needs a slight tactical tweak and a bit of luck to get their foot in the door, and George could be about to get an opportunity to lead the line amid doubts over Barry.
