Liverpool manager Arne Slot finds himself under fire, but he is already plotting the latest arrival to the Anfield side’s Dutch contingent in the summer.

The Reds already boast four Netherlands stars in the form of Virgil van Dijk, Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, but their number is set to be added to in the forthcoming transfer window.

Denzel Dumfries and Lutsharel Geertruida are strong candidates to move to the Anfield club, according to a report from TeamTalk.

The interest is not new. During the January window, both Dumfries and Geertruida were linked with Liverpool. The former seemed to have a particularly strong chance to make the jump to Merseyside.

Although it was decided at that time not to make a deal, the intention is still to bring in reinforcements at right-back this coming summer. Frimpong has proven to be injury-prone and Conor Bradley sustained a serious injury earlier this season.

These issues have pressed Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo into starting as right-back on occasion.

Liverpool told valuations

Liverpool are already aware of the asking price for both players.

Dumfries has a release clause worth €25 million in his Inter Milan contract, which expires in June 2028. This figure is in line with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €25.1m.

Geertruida, meanwhile, has been impressive in the Premier League with Sunderland, where he is on loan from RB Leipzig. The Black Cats have a purchase option in this deal worth €23m (£20m).

The end for Frimpong?

Liverpool’s plans for Dumfries and Geertruida suggest that they could be planning for a future without Frimpong, who has struggled to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold this season.

There would, after all, be little logic in having three right-backs of such calibre in the first-team squad.

Bradley’s injury issues, meanwhile, are expected to have cleared up by June, giving him the whole pre-season to prepare for the new campaign. The 22-year-old has done enough to justify his place in Liverpool’s plans going forward, assuming he can fully recover from his problem, whereas Frimpong’s return of two goals and two assists in 31 games falls short of what was expected of him.

Frimpong has a healthy ETV of €59.7m, so Liverpool could move him on for around this figure, sign either Dumfries or Geertruida and still make a healthy profit. The logic in this deal from the perspective of the Reds is clear.
