Siren Eager for WSL Return as West Ham Prepare for Liverpool Test

Midfielder Oona Siren says she is looking forward to getting back to Barclays Women’s Super League action this weekend, as West Ham United F.C. Women travel to face Liverpool F.C. Women at the BrewDog Stadium on Sunday.

The Hammers have not played since the end of March, when they were held to a draw by London City Lionesses. On that occasion, it was Siren who provided the standout moment, scoring a remarkable long-range volley to secure a point for her side.

The Finland international reacted quickest on the edge of the area after a partial clearance, sending a looping first-time effort over the goalkeeper and into the net—an effort that quickly gained attention beyond the match itself.

Her strike was later recognised as the league’s Goal of the Month for March, beating a strong shortlist that included names such as Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead, Caitlin Foord, Lauren James and Sjoeke Nüsken.

Reflecting on the award after returning to training, Siren admitted she had not expected to come out on top.

“I was surprised, to be honest,” she said. “But it’s a really nice feeling. I’ve watched the goal back a few times now, and it’s probably one of the best I’ve scored so far.”

Her recognition continues a positive trend for West Ham this season, following Shekiera Martinez picking up the same award earlier in the campaign.

Siren’s recent form has also extended onto the international stage. Representing Finland women’s national football team, she featured in two successful 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches, helping her side record victories over Slovakia women’s national football team and Latvia women’s national football team.

She played the full match in the win against Slovakia, where teammate Eva Nyström captained the side and scored, before making a late appearance off the bench in the victory over Latvia.

“It was great to be back with the national team,” Siren said. “And to win both games made it even better. But now it’s good to return to West Ham—it feels like it’s been a long time since our last match.”

Attention now shifts back to domestic competition, with West Ham aiming to strengthen their position in the league table. A positive result against Liverpool could provide valuable breathing room in the battle to avoid the drop.

Despite the challenge, Siren remains optimistic.

“Liverpool are a strong team and they’ve had good results recently,” she said. “But we believe in ourselves. We’re confident that we can go there and get something from the game.”

With momentum from both club and international performances, Siren will be hoping to play a key role once again as West Ham return to action on Sunday.
