Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah's season could be over after being forced off with a hamstring injury. The Egyptian, who will leave Anfield after a trophy-laden nine years in the summer, was forced off on the hour mark during the Reds' Premier League showdown with Crystal Palace.

The forward appeared to pull up with a muscle problem after making a pass, 15 minutes after the restart. Salah suffered a similar issue during the Champions League Round of 16 win over Galatasaray when a problem flared up forcing him to miss the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion and the international break.

Should the injury be significant, it will deny Salah the opportunity to extend his superb goalscoring record against Manchester United (May 3). If the problem is severe, it could mean he misses the remainder of the season with the Reds battling for Champions League qualification.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Tim Sherwood raised fears that it could be the last time in a Liverpool shirt for the 33-year-old, he said: "Worrying. This could be the end in a Liverpool shirt, done his hamstring. Frimpong's going to come on and it don't look good, if he's coming off for a hamstring.

"It wasn't when he was running, he tries to pass the ball and you see him pull up and grab his left hamstring. This is the end of Mohamed Salah in a Liverpool shirt, what a sad way to end. He will get an amazing ovation.

"What a shame, what a shame it has to end this way, there's no way he's back for that last game against Brentford."

The Egyptian thought he had won a penalty against Palace during the first-half following a challenge from Brennan Johnson but the decision was overturned.

Frimpong replaced Salah and it could be the forward's final act for the Reds as he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after reaching a mutual agreement with the Reds to terminate his contract early.

The devastation was visible for Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, who was at Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester City and Southampton.

He said: "Yes it will be let's hope that's not the case. As Joe will tell you, until you get it really assessed by the medical team and you have an MRI on it, you don't really know the extent.

"But if that's the case and it is his last game it'll be extremely sad, not just for Mo, for everyone connected to Liverpool football club because he's been a legend and everyone wants to see him get the send off he deserves."

At the stage of Salah's disappointing exit, Liverpool were in front after first-half goals from Alexander Isak and Andy Robertson.

However, there was controversy during the second-half as Daniel Munoz's goal came after a sickening jolt in the turf from Freddie Woodman as he smothered to deny a Palace one-on-one.

The third-choice goalkeeper was stricken and tried to play on, before falling to ground, before the Palace full-back lifted the ball into an empty net.
