Liverpool fans heard coining brilliant new chant for one player during win over Crystal Palace today

Andy Robertson’s breakaway goal against Crystal Palace took the roof off of Anfield, but it was Freddie Woodman’s heroics at the other end that had Liverpool fans singing in chorus.

Standing in for the injured Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili, Woodman has been outstanding for Liverpool. First in the Merseyside derby and again during the win over Palace, he has hardly put a foot wrong.

It has caused a surge in popularity amongst the fans, and that was never more apparent than after Liverpool’s second goal at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. The Kop let their feelings be known — lauding Woodman at the expense of Jordan Pickford.

With Arne Slot expected to stay, will Liverpool challenge for the Premier League next season?

Or will it be another difficult campaign? 😬

Liverpool fans sing for Freddie Woodman against Crystal Palace

It was a vintage Liverpool counter-attack finished by Robertson, but it started with an impressive reaction save from Woodman. It wasn’t the first time he was forced into action, nor the last.

After the celebrations, fans around Anfield were vocal in their appreciation for the Liverpool stopper, singing: “England’s, England’s No 1.”

That is obviously the role currently held by Merseyside rival Jordan Pickford, but the form Woodman has should have Thomas Tuchel thinking — at least according to Liverpool fans.

That might be a leap, but there’s no doubt these performances have put certain clubs on notice, with the 29-year-old showing his ability to play at the very top level.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate’s celebration with Woodman

While most of the Liverpool players darted over to Robertson, who was the first person they would have wanted to see on the scoresheet.

But Liverpool’s centre-backs turned the other way. They went to their goalkeeper, without whom the goal would not have come. And it was a big goal.

Van Dijk and Konate embraced Woodman during the celebrations, who is surely in dreamland after bringing Anfield to its feet in such fashion.
