Liverpool won 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace with stand-in goalkeeper Freddie Woodman superb – he only conceded a goal because he was down injured!

Freddie Woodman – 9 out of 10 (Man of the Match)

Making his first Premier League start for Liverpool, Woodman made a huge save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta just before Andy Robertson made it 2-0.

Virgil van Dijk raced to him amid the celebrations and Alisson applauded from the stands, as both Reds legends appreciated a key contribution.

Woodman also denied Maxence Lacroix and Ismaila Sarr, and Daniel Munoz then harshly chipped the ball into an empty net when he was down injured.

The Kop were even singing “England’s No. 1” at one point – a new cult hero is born!

Curtis Jones – 8

After shining against Everton at right-back it was the same again from Jones here.

He made an important interception before the break, before inch-perfectly assisting Robertson for the second goal.

Liverpool shouldn’t be entertaining offers for the Scouser in our team this summer.

Ibrahima Konate – 7

Konate has had tougher games, but went about his business well after an iffy start.

He poked the ball clear after Woodman’s save, as Liverpool counter-attacked like the Jurgen Klopp era, and he was dependable throughout.

Virgil van Dijk – 7

This was one of those days when Van Dijk eased around the pitch in the Anfield sunshine, barely breaking a sweat.

Like Konate, he wasn’t exactly tested too many times, but when called upon in the second half he was strong, making the joint-most clearances (nine).

Andy Robertson – 8

Has Robertson scored the most popular Anfield goal of the season?

On his third-to-last home game for Liverpool, the left-back finished brilliantly to make it 2-0, showing he still has the legs to get into the opposition box.

Another who impressed in all facets of his game.

Alexis Mac Allister – 8

Mac Allister looked well-rested after a jaded-looking season, producing a good performance up against reported Liverpool target Adam Wharton.

One clever pass to Mo Salah created a chance, while his scuffed shot fell to Alexander Isak who did the rest.

Not the finest assist he’ll ever get, but he also teed up Florian Wirtz at the end and made the joint-most defensive contributions for Liverpool (11).

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6

Szoboszlai has often been a headline-maker this season, but this was more of an ‘efficient’ display.

That was to be expected in a disciplined midfield role in the absence of Ryan Gravenberch.

Dribbled past three times as he begins to tire after a long campaign.

Florian Wirtz – 8

It was Wirtz’s typically deft pass that found Jones before Robertson fired home, summing up his class.

He then completed the scoring, smashing home superbly on the half-volley to cap off an effective showing.

Again, Liverpool’s £116 million man wasn’t outstanding, but there was plenty to admire both in and out of possession.

Mohamed Salah – 7

Salah looked vibrant at Anfield, and having fired narrowly over, he produced some good work down the right for Isak’s goal.

Sadly, his afternoon was cut short by what looked like a hamstring issue – here’s hoping he hasn’t played at Anfield for the final time.

Cody Gakpo – 7

There was plenty of effort from Gakpo – he won an impressive eight out of nine aerial duels – without ever being the most eye-catching performer.

Worked hard at both ends of the pitch, but overall Palace’s defenders got the better of him.

Alexander Isak – 7

After another frustrating start – not his fault, more a lack of service – Isak opened the scoring with a well-taken finish.

It was Liverpool’s record signing’s first goal since December, and it seemed to give him confidence.

Tired as the game went on, but a step in the right direction.

Overall Team Performance – 7

Substitutes

Jeremie Frimpong (on for Salah, 58′) – 6

Not the most noticeable of cameos – in fairness, Liverpool weren’t attacking as much when he came on.

Ryan Gravenberch (on for Isak, 78′) – 6

Didn’t stamp his authority as much as he would have liked.

Milos Kerkez (on for Robertson, 86′) – 5

Looked shaky as Liverpool clung on.

Joe Gomez (on for Jones, 86′) – N/A

No time to make a meaningful impact.

Subs not used: Pecsi, Nyoni, Chiesa, Ngumoha, Wright

Arne Slot – 7

Amid reports that Slot may be staying put this summer, he needed a big performance to get some fans back on his side.

After a slow start, Liverpool did that in patches, and Slot’s decision to start Robertson was vindicated when he finished off a beautiful team move.

It wasn’t perfect, with the second-half display poor, but the Reds have jumped to fourth in the Premier League after Aston Villa‘s defeat at Fulham.

Next up is a trip to Man United – victory at Old Trafford really would suggest that a corner has been turned. Let’s not go overboard just yet, though.
