'I'm amazed': David Moyes says VAR made a major mistake in West Ham vs Everton

David Moyes firmly believes Everton should have had a penalty against West Ham.

Midfielder Mateus Fernandes punched the ball with his hand deep into the second half, but the referee and VAR waved it away.

Everton were sent back to Merseyside without a point following Callum Wilson’s late goal, which rubbed further salt in the wound of this bizarre decision.

David Moyes slams VAR decision in Everton penalty appeal

The Premier League dismissed Everton’s penalty appeal, with Fernandes said to have ‘accidentally’ handled the ball.

It was clear as day that the West Ham midfielder knocked the ball away from Thierno Barry’s possession, but Everton did not get the decision.

“I’m amazed they’ve not given a penalty-kick for it,” Moyes said after the game.

“I think it was VAR who made the decision. I don’t know who was on it today, but they certainly got it wrong, that’s for sure.”

Everton were not at the races at the London Stadium, with their standards having fallen short since the return from the international break.

The Blues have slipped down to 11th in the Premier League table, but are still just three points off sixth spot.

Whether or not Everton deserved anything from the game, there will still be strong sense of injustice following this handball decision.

Moyes was not happy with Chris Kavanagh in the Merseyside derby and the theme continues with Stuart Attwell this weekend.
