Reporting on YouTube, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool remain the team to ‘keep an eye’ on for Denzel Dumfries this summer.
The Reds wanted to sign the right back in January when they ran into injury problems with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.
Discussing Dumfries’ future this summer, Romano said that although Inter Milan would have never agreed to let Dumfries leave on loan in January, selling him in the summer may be something they are willing to do.
Romano explained: “Denzel Dumfries is a hot topic for the summer, an issue that we need to keep monitoring. He has a release clause active in the summer, so that opens up the market potential. All the various opportunities are being explored for Dumfries. The release clause has a very limited timeframe.
“One team to keep an eye on Denzel Dumfries remains Liverpool. Liverpool already wanted him during the January transfer window. It wasn’t possible, partly because Dumfries was injured.
“Inter wouldn’t have agreed to a loan deal in January, which was perhaps the only reason why Liverpool could even consider that kind of move, but Inter immediately said no.
“Let’s see whether this summer Liverpool go back in for Dumfries. He’s certainly a player highly rated by the manager, Arne Slot. There’s a very good feeling there, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will choose Dumfries as their main priority target or not.”

Dumfries is a really smart signing that would keep spending low
Liverpool need a strong defensive right back that also knows how to bomb forward and support an elite attacking lineup. These are all things Dumfries can do.
He’s also really experienced at 30. While this goes against the typical Liverpool transfer approach, Arne Slot has hinted recently that there may be some exceptions to the FSG rule on older signings this summer.
On 13 April, Slot told the press: “Our model is completely clear, that is not to say we cannot make an exception because the club signed Wataru Endo and maybe Federico Chiesa was a little bit above the age we usually sign.”
Signing Dumfries for around £30m not only increases the competition and quality at right back, but gives Slot some creative tactical options.
The Dutchman is able to do a job at right wing-back, right centre-back and right midfield in addition to being a natural right back. He can essentially play anywhere down the right of the flank except for right wing.
This season, the 30-year-old has scored five goals. Last season, he managed 11 goals and six assists.
