Andy Robertson posts brilliant picture with Celtic icon Henrik Larsson and Virgil van Dijk

Andy Robertson scored what could be his last goal for Liverpool on Saturday.

But it may not have even been the most significant thing to happen to him on the day — if he’s as big a Celtic fan as he says he is, that is.

Henrik Larsson was in attendance at Anfield as Robertson’s side took another step towards Champions League qualification with a 3-1 win over Fulham.

The Scotland captain couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a picture, and he brought his Celtic mate with him.

A boyhood supporter of the club, Robertson was released by the Hoops aged 15, being forced to rebuild his career at Queen’s Park.

A fortnight ago, Liverpool announced that the defender would be calling time on his nine years at Anfield, during which he has made over 370 appearances, winning nine trophies.

That led to the inevitable question about whether the time has finally arrived for the left-back to return to Glasgow.

However, reports have since confirmed that Tottenham are in pole position to sign Robertson, having come close to signing him in January.

There is a catch to Spurs’ interest, though, given that their status in English top-flight remains at risk. In the event of relegation, the situation would inevitably change.

Atletico Madrid tried to sign him last summer; Diego Simeone has been known to use the Premier League market in recent years.

Whether or not the Hoops would be willing to accommodate the wages of both Robertson and Kieran Tierney, despite both being left-backs, remains to be seen.

The Scotland National Team have wrestled with the left-back dilemma for the best part of a decade now, using both in a back five in their most recent international friendly.

Andy Robertson considers move ‘every time he watches Celtic’

Asked if he thinks about joining Celtic on The Currie Club almost four years ago, Robertson said: “Every time I watch Celtic, I consider it.

“When you watch them and see a packed Celtic Park, as a fan you always have that dream.

“Ideally I want to finish my career here at Liverpool. If I can stay at the top of my game, at the top of the tree my whole career, that’s the route I want to go down.

“But also, when I look at Celtic and when I was growing up, I was thinking I wanted to give them my best years.

“When I was at Queen’s Park I had a dream of still playing with Celtic and always dreamed of giving my best years to Celtic.

“And now I don’t want to go as a 34 or 35-year-old old guy that my uncles start hating on me because I can’t move any more! Time will tell. I’m very much a person who lives in the moment.

“I don’t look too far ahead and I don’t often look back. There will be a time for that.”

Robertson is currently 32, leaving just two years before his self-imposed cut-off age. He has mostly been used from the bench for Liverpool this season.
