When Mohamed Salah is expected to be fit again and what it means for Liverpool's season - journalist

We have more on Mohamed Salah’s injury he picked up against Crystal Palace, and it makes for grim reading at the worst possible time.

These are the final weeks of his career at Anfield, and this knock is a hammer blow for Liverpool, for Arne Slot, and for fans who were hoping to give him the farewell he deserves.

Salah has been central to so many defining Liverpool moments, but if reports from Egypt are to be believed, he may well have played his last game in a red shirt. That would be a brutal way for such an iconic spell to end, especially after everything that has been built around his final run.

Mohamed Salah out for at least four weeks according to Egypt official Ibrahim Hassan

Salah’s farewell tour has been built up as something special, as it should be.

He is one of the greatest players Liverpool have ever had, and there was always going to be emotion attached to his final weeks at the club. But this injury puts a huge spanner in the works.

According to Reuters, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has now delivered a worrying update on the forward’s condition.

He said: “He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment.”

Four weeks from now brings Salah right up to the final week of the season, which means there is a chance he could yet return in time for Brentford. That would be the perfect send-off. One final appearance at Anfield, and one last chance for Liverpool supporters to give Salah the goodbye he deserves.

Hopefully that proves to be true, because the alternative would be a bitter pill to swallow. Salah limping off against Palace and never playing for Liverpool again would be an unfitting end to a legendary career.

Liverpool must now plan without him for a crucial stretch. It may be that we have seen the last of him. Only time will tell.
