Mo Salah “out for four weeks” and could miss rest of season – Egypt doctor

Mohamed Salah could potentially be “out for four weeks” with a hamstring injury, meaning he may have made his last appearance for Liverpool.

The Reds beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday, but as has been the case all season, injuries again put a dampener on the mood.

Salah was forced off shortly before the hour mark after suffering a hamstring issue tussling with rumoured Liverpool target Adam Wharton, having enjoyed another improved performance.

Speaking to Reuters, Egypt team doctor Ibrahim Hassan has claimed that the 33-year-old could miss the remainder of the season, but his involvement in the 2026 World Cup isn’t under threat.

“The diagnosis has been confirmed for Mohamed Salah‘s hamstring tear, and he will be sidelined from the pitches for four weeks,” Hassan said.

“There is ongoing monitoring of Mohamed Salah‘s condition, and his injury will not affect his participation in the 2026 World Cup.”

Mo Salah’s Liverpool career can’t end this way

Salah applauded the fans and looked emotional as he left the pitch against Palace, which naturally made some wonder whether he understood the severity of the injury, knowing he wouldn’t play for Liverpool again.

It would be such a limp way for one of the greatest Reds careers to end, though, following a remarkable nine-year journey at Anfield that has amassed 257 goals in 440 appearances and seven trophies.

Salah deserves a memorable goodbye, much like Jurgen Klopp did two years ago, hopefully scoring in the sunshine at home to Brentford on May 24.

On the plus side, the Egyptian has been famed for his fitness levels at Liverpool, never making fewer than 32 appearances in a full league season to date, which could aid his chances of making a swift recovery.

It certainly looks as though Salah will be out of next Sunday’s crucial trip to rivals Man United, and the Brentford game on the final day may be the best he can hope for, missing the rest of the run-in.

Whatever happens, Salah will depart as one of the best players in Liverpool’s history, but for his last-ever appearance to end with him trudging off injured would feel cruel.
