Salah in fight to play again for Liverpool amid worrying injury update

Hugo Ekitike will return stronger after ‘devastating’ injury – Arne Slot

Mohamed Salah may well have played his final Liverpool match, with a new hamstring injury set to rule him out for the foreseeable.

The Egyptian King has confirmed that his time with the Anfield club will come to an end at this season’s conclusion, but his playing career with the Reds may be curtailed even earlier than expected.

He started Saturday’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace but was hooked with just under an hour played after going down off the ball with a hamstring injury.

He took his time leaving the pitch, making the most of his moment as he soaked up the adoration of the home support.

Slot could not give a concrete update on Salah’s condition at full-time, but Egypt national team boss Ibrahim Hassan has revealed a precise injury timeline.

He told Arabic language outlet Okaz: “Mohamed Salah is suffering from a muscle tear and will be out of action for four weeks.”

Such a timeline would see him passed fit on May 23, the day before Liverpool’s final Premier League match of the season, at home to Brentford.

Mohamed Salah seemed to say goodbye to the Liverpool faithful as he left the pitch on Saturday

Slot will likely issue a further update when he previews next weekend’s trip across the northwest to face Manchester United.

Speaking on Saturday, though, he refused to say whether Salah would make a comeback this season: “We don't know, that's the best answer I can give because if I say it might be a chance then probably all the headlines are, 'there might be a chance…'

“We simply don't know but what we do know is the season is in four weeks over, so there are not a lot of games being played.

“We have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play.”

Should his involvement against Palace be his final minutes in a Liverpool shirt, Salah will leave Merseyside with a remarkable record of 257 goals in 440 appearances, with a brace of Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph to boot.
