Liverpool duo have heard the transfer rumours surrounding them and are responding in the perfect way - opinion

Liverpool might have resigned themselves to selling at least one of Alexis Mac Allister or Curtis Jones this summer, but both players are making a strong case to stay.

In the case of Jones, the running theory has been that he is unsatisfied with the size of his role under Arne Slot, and he has been regularly linked with an exit this season. Liverpool have been considering selling Mac Allister as well after an underwhelming season.

Football media is loud, and it’s likely the pair of midfielders have heard the rumours around their futures. And it seems as if they aren’t resigned to their fates just yet.

Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones have upped their games

After a season that has left fans tearing out their hair, Liverpool are putting it together in recent weeks.

A place in the Premier League top five is all but secured, and recent results against Crystal Palace and Everton offer plenty of encouragement.

In particular, Jones and Mac Allister have been immense.

Jones was Liverpool’s best player in the Merseyside derby, playing at right-back, and he was great again on Saturday against Palace. He’s showing his value, filling in at the back with no issues.

Also brilliant at the weekend was Mac Allister, who grabbed two assists and pulled the strings in Liverpool’s midfield. After a frustrating season, it’s great to see him playing with confidence again.

This all comes at the perfect time. Liverpool are planning their summer business, and that includes assessing each current member of the squad and arriving at a conclusion on keeping or selling.

It’s not to say Jones and Mac Allister have ensured their futures at Anfield with a couple of good performances, but they have at least helped their cases. One or both could still leave, but if they can make their returns to form stick, there may be a place for them at Liverpool still.

Liverpool need something new in midfield

Even if Jones and Mac Allister do stay, Liverpool will still need to make changes in the engine room.

For too long, we have gone without a traditional defensive midfielder to operate in front of the back four, and that should be one of the priorities in the window.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

The current options just don’t have the physicality and defensive presence of other top midfields, and it has shown all season. Liverpool may be more convinced to stick with their current options after recent performances, but an addition in that area is a non-negotiable this summer.
