'I don't think they'll run with him': ESPN pundit claims Liverpool fans should still expect Slot to be sacked

Liverpool owners FSG will not trust Arne Slot to be in charge of this summer’s transfer budget and will sack him instead, claims pundit Craig Burley.

The Reds are expected to spend heavily once again at the end of the season as they aim to right what has been a fairly disastrous campaign.

As he looks likely to guide Liverpool back into the Champions League, recent reports suggest that Slot is set to stay and be given another chance at Anfield, but according to Burley, this could be smoke and mirrors.

With Arne Slot expected to stay, will Liverpool challenge for the Premier League next season?

Or will it be another difficult campaign? 😬

Craig Burley is expecting Slot to be sacked

Alongside Liverpool legend Steve Nicol, Burley is one of ESPN‘s most outspoken pundits.

And despite seeing the Reds pick up a third straight Premier League win on Saturday, the former Chelsea midfielder gave his view that Slot will not survive the summer with the Reds.

“I don’t think they’ll run with him next year, I don’t,” Burley told presenter Dan Thomas.

“I think there’s too many questions from up above about spending money again and letting him [spend it].”

After the debacle of last summer’s window, and the season which has followed, supporters could understand if FSG wanted to do down a different route.

For the time being, however, there is no indication that Burley will be vindicated. Everything right now points to Slot staying to put things right next season.

Whether that is the right decision or not will only become clear once 2026/27 gets underway and fans see if Liverpool have made any kind of discernible progress.

The final four Premier League matches could, of course, change things, especially if the Reds end the season poorly. But, for now, we’d be surprised to see Burley’s prediction come true, no matter how much some would love to see it happen.
