Report: Liverpool could try and sign ‘sensational’ goalkeeper who turned them down in 2024 to replace Alisson

Alisson Becker is another modern Liverpool legend who could leave at the end of the season, with a return to Italy being put forward by Juventus.

The Brazilian has already had his Liverpool contract extended by a year, which gives the club protection on paper. However, that does not completely remove the possibility of an exit. Juventus interest in Alisson is clear, and that leaves Liverpool with a major decision to make.

A straight sale may be on the table, but if Alisson does decide the time is right to move on, a swap deal involving Michele Di Gregorio could be the best outcome for the Reds.

Liverpool could sign Michele Di Gregorio in Alisson Becker swap deal

Di Gregorio is Juventus’ current goalkeeper and an Italy international who has built a strong reputation in Serie A.

He joined Juventus after impressing at Monza, and while he may not carry Alisson’s world-class status, he is a proven top-flight goalkeeper with experience in one of Europe’s major leagues.

A TEAMtalk report claims Juventus have made Alisson their top target to become their new number one. It also states that the Brazilian is intrigued by the idea of moving to Turin, with Juventus already holding talks with his representatives.

Alisson remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and replacing him would be one more difficult task to add to the summer agenda.

However, if an exit becomes inevitable, Liverpool have to make sure they do not leave themselves short. That is where Di Gregorio makes sense.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has already been signed as the long-term succession plan, though the report adds that there are internal concerns over whether he has developed as expected during his first season at Anfield.

Liverpool need an experienced goalkeeper to soften the blow if Alisson leaves. Di Gregorio would give them exactly that.

He may not arrive as the undisputed number one, but he would be a quality option to compete with Mamardashvili. At the very least, he would be a strong number two with enough pedigree to step in when needed.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will be watching closely…

Liverpool wanted Di Gregorio a couple of years ago, but he turned down the chance to sign. This swap would obviously depend on if his stance has changed.

If Juventus push hard and Alisson is open to the move, Liverpool must protect themselves. A swap deal involving Di Gregorio would be the smartest way to do that.
