FSG have started talks: Liverpool make move to sign mega-money star who's the new Sadio Mane -…

Liverpool supporters will be hoping that they have not seen the last of Mohamed Salah after he came off with a hamstring injury in the win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Reds legend had to be taken off in the 59th minute of the 3-1 win over the Eagles in the Premier League, and it may turn out to be his final appearance for the club.

Salah announced during the international break in March that he would be on his way out of Anfield at the end of this season to explore a new challenge, which means that the next four games are his final chance to add more numbers to his historic statistics.

The Egypt international made his 440th appearance for the club against Palace on Saturday, but was unable to add to his 257 goals and 122 assists in all competitions.

Hopefully, the injury is only a minor issue and the forward will return for a final farewell on the pitch before the end of the Premier League campaign.

Liverpool identify top target to replace Mo Salah

Looking beyond the end of this season, the Reds have to find a player to come in and replace the attacking output that Salah provides on the right side of the attack.

Losing him in the summer will be a big blow to Arne Slot, given that the winger has contributed with 12 goals and nine assists this term, and they have reportedly identified their top target to replace him.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah looks dejected after the match

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have earmarked RB Leipzig attacker Yan Diomande as their number one target to come in and replace Salah in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The same outlet reports that the Reds have gone as far as to make their first move for the Ivorian wing wizard, by making contact with his representatives.

Yan Diomande for RB Leipzig

Football Insider claims that the club want to sign an 'elite' attacker to bolster their squad in the summer and Diomande has been identified as the priority target in that area of the pitch.

It adds that Liverpool hope that their strong relationship with RB Leipzig, having signed Ibrahima Konate and Naby Keita from the German side in the past, will help them to conclude a deal for the winger.

Why Yan Diomande is not a like-for-like replacement for Mohamed Salah

Whilst Diomande could arrive at Anfield this summer as a replacement for Salah on the right wing, he is more like former Reds star Sadio Mane in style.

Salah is a left-footed winger who can cut in on his left foot to score and create goals, whilst he does not use dribbling or explosive movement as much as his former teammate did.

Only 24 of the Egyptian's 193 Premier League goals for Liverpool came with his weaker right foot. Mane, meanwhile, scored 30 of his 111 Premier League goals with his left foot, showing greater quality on his weaker foot.

PL career Salah Mane

Appearances 326 263

Goals 193 111

Right-footed goals 24 63

Left-footed goals 101 30

Headed goals 9 15

Mane had more variety in the way that he scored goals, scoring more weak-footed goals and more headers than Salah in far fewer appearances and overall goals.

Diomande, who was described as "explosive" by U23 scout Antonio Mango, is similar to the ex-Southampton star in that sense, because he has shown that he can be effective as a scorer with both feet.

The Ivorian winger has scored seven goals with his left foot and five goals with his right foot in the Bundesliga this season, despite being predominantly right-footed, and scored one goal with his left foot and one goal with his right foot for Leganes in LaLiga last year.

This shows that he has the variety in his play at the top end of the pitch to score with both feet, as Mane did, whilst he can also be a big creative threat for his team.

Diomande has created 16 'big chances', more than any Liverpool player has managed in the Premier League, and registered seven assists in the Bundesliga so far this season.

The 19-year-old attacker has the potential to replace Salah's output, with his 12 goals and seven assists in the league this season, but he could do so in a way that reminds Liverpool supporters more of how Mane used to play at Anfield.

Overall, the teenage star could be a terrific signing if the Reds are able to get a deal over the line, due to his age, potential, two-footedness, and proven output in a major European league.
