There were plenty of positives for Arne Slot to take as Liverpool put itself on the verge of Champions League qualification with four games left to play by beating Crystal Palace this weekend.

Alexander Isak scored. Florian Wirtz scored. Andy Robertson scored. And, but for a controversial goal scored by Daniel Munoz in the second half, Freddie Woodman nearly kept a clean sheet.

It could be a day that Isak and Wirtz look back on fondly — they still have work to do as a partnership, but both netting felt like a step in the right direction — and it was the second game, after the Merseyside derby, that will write Woodman into the Liverpool history books.

"I think (Woodman) did absolutely brilliantly," Isak told club media when he was asked about the stand-in goalkeeper. "It’s never easy to come in, especially in a position like his where you have to be ready.

"It’s not often you get the chance. It’s really big from him to be able to put on a performance like this. I think he deserved a clean sheet, but a really big performance from him."

Liverpool won the game comfortably, but Isak's goal to break the deadlock was important. When Alexis Mac Allister had an effort at goal, the Swede's instincts took over.

"Crystal Palace are one of the most difficult teams to score against and create chances," Isak said. "I think we showed we’ve got the quality — we’ve just got to keep this form.

"I felt like that shot was not going in so I kind of intercepted it and it became a good touch. Then I managed to put it into the back of the net.

"I’ve been battling getting back to full fitness and obviously scoring a goal is probably the best way to finding your form again. Obviously I’m really happy.

"It’s still obviously really tight in the table and anything can happen but I think we’ve put ourselves in a good position to attack these last couple of games."

Liverpool.com says: It was a very positive day for the Reds. Woodman was great, and Isak and Wirtz both scoring can only be a good thing. For Slot, getting the best out of them as soon as possible has to be a priority.

Not everything was perfect, but Liverpool has now won three Premier League matches in a row. From here, it should have enough to make qualifying for the Champions League fairly straightforward.
