8/10 West Ham hero vs. Everton piles pressure on Tottenham Hotspur despite Wolves win

Tottenham earned a narrow win against Wolves, but their relegation rivals West Ham won too.

Tottenham finally found a way to get those important three points on the table, but the problem in this relegation scrap that the Lilywhites find themselves in is that so did everyone else.

It was a scrappy but a vital 1-0 win at Molineux Stadium which should ideally have felt like a turning point. But instead, by the time Anthony Taylor blew the full-time whistle, the table looked almost identical to how it did when the day started, and the pressure had not lifted even a millimetre from Spurs’ shoulders because while the North Londoners found a way past Wolves, West Ham United found a way to win their game as well. And their match winner has now laid out exactly how the Hammers are going to push Tottenham for survival.

Given Nottingham Forest’s 5-0 win over Sunderland on Friday night, they give themselves some breathing room. So it looks like it would come down in between Tottenham and West Ham for that last relegation spot.

Callum Wilson speaks candidly after both West Ham & Tottenham grab three crucial points

The 8/10 Callum Wilson has become someone who has made it a habit to land these decisive blows in this season’s relegation scrap and did it yet again yesterday when he put it past Pickford in the stoppage time as West Ham found a way to grab all three points over Everton.

And in his reflection after the Hammers’ win, the former Newcastle man was not dressing things up as he insisted that West Ham remain in control of this relegation battle as he pointed out that it will be the Hammers’ ability to push through the results on their own which will be the key factor in deciding that relegation. And he also spoke about how the Lilywhites’ win was clearly on the radar for the East Londoners, especially given Wolves was a game that they expected Tottenham to win. He said: (h/t BBC)

“We’re the ones in the driving seat at the moment and if we take care of our own results, it should stand us in good stead come the end of the season.

“When the goal went in, it was a feeling of frustration, but when the eight minutes of added time went up I wanted to go and get that winning goal.

“The lads are buzzing. You do ultimately look at other results, we knew they [Tottenham] were playing a game in which they were the favourites, so we had to do our job,”

Tottenham now have a must win game vs Villa

So going into another week of Premier League football, Tottenham remain 18th and still two points from safety with only four games to go in this season of the English top tier. And now the upcoming trip to Aston Villa will carry even more weight for Roberto De Zerbi & Co., as Tottenham would want to build on this win and start to apply some sense of pressure on West Ham.

Anything less than a win against Unai Emery & Co., Spurs will risk making those two points into much more.
