FSG exploring "surprise" move to sign £30m PL star for Liverpool, he could be Salah 2.0 -…

Liverpool are set to dip into the market for a new centre-forward when the summer transfer window opens for business after Hugo Ekitike's Achilles injury earlier this month.

The France international is set to miss roughly nine months through injury and is expected to miss the majority of the 2026/27 campaign for Arne Slot's side.

That means that Alexander Isak, who has had his own injury issues this season, is the only senior number nine option on the books ahead of the new campaign.

Ekitike scored 17 goals in 45 matches in all competitions for Liverpool before his injury blow, which means that the club have lost a significant amount of firepower.

On top of being without the Frenchman for most of next season, Mohamed Salah has already confirmed that he will be on his way out of Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool considering move to sign Premier League attacker

The Reds will be looking to add another striker to the squad to fill a gap whilst Ekitike is out injured, and they could land their next Salah in the process.

Before his historic spell at Anfield, the Egypt international flopped at Stamford Bridge with a return of two goals in 19 appearances for Chelsea earlier in his career.

Now, according to Football Insider, Liverpool are exploring a move to sign Randal Kolo Muani, who has struggled for form on loan at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Pete O'Rourke describes it as a "surprise" link, because of his underwhelming spell with Spurs, but says that he is on the club's radar as an emergency signing to cover Ekitike's injury.

The Football Insider reporter adds, though, that he is not the club's top target in the centre-forward position and that a move is 'unlikely' at this moment in time. That said, if it did happen, it could set the Reds back around £30m.

If the Reds do decide to go through with a move for the France international, though, he could end up being a Salah repeat at Anfield next season.

How Randal Kolo Muani could emulate Mo Salah at Liverpool

Kolo Muani may not go on to score 257 goals for Liverpool, as the Egyptian forward has, but he could emulate Salah by being an impactful player for the club after flopping at another Premier League team.

The France international has only scored one goal and provided one assist in 26 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs this season, which is an incredibly underwhelming return for a player who has played on the left wing and as a centre-forward.

However, his form in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Juventus suggests that there is much more to his game than his time at Tottenham so far suggests.

The French attacker averaged a goal every other game in the Serie A for the Old Lady, scoring every 146 minutes, and it is not only in Italy where he has proven himself to be a useful attacking outlet.

Kolo Muani scored 11 goals in 54 games for PSG, 26 goals in 50 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt, and found the back of the net 23 times in 87 games for Nantes at senior level after coming through their academy.

The 27-year-old attacker also showed promise in the Champions League for Spurs this season with a return of four goals and two assists in nine appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring twice against his parent club in the league phase.

Kolo Muani is not as bad as his tally of one goal in 26 Premier League games suggests and his lack of output in the top-flight could be put down to Tottenham's struggles, as they currently sit in the relegation zone in the division.

Playing for a Liverpool team that has won a Premier League title under Arne Slot and is on course to finish in a Champions League spot this term could get the best out of the Frenchman in a way that Spurs have been unable to.

Ekitike's injury lay-off means that a short-term loan move could make a lot of sense if that is something that PSG are open to again, as they could bring Kolo Muani in as cover for next season and use him to compete with Isak for the number nine position.

If Liverpool can get him to show the kind of form in front of goal that he has displayed everywhere else in his career, Kolo Muani could emulate Salah by thriving at Anfield after flopping in the Premier League at first.
