Everton's chances of signing Leo Scienza boosted as Southampton star makes admission

Everton have been linked with a move to sign Southampton talisman Leo Scienza.

Everton have stepped up their interest in Leo Scienza in recent weeks after his superb performances in the Championship.

Scienza, who arrived from FC Heidenheim last summer, has registered a very impressive 20 goal involvements this term.

It has been reported that the Brazilian forward, who can operate as an attacking midfielder and left winger, has a ÂŁ25m release clause in his contract.

Now, there has been a further development on Scienza’s future, which should give Everton increased confidence of landing his signature.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Scienza has suggested he will consider leaving Southampton this summer if they don’t gain promotion to the Premier League.

“That (promotion) was my main objective when I signed here,” the 27-year-old stated.

“I had opportunities in the top divisions of Spain, Italy, France… I chose to come here because of the project. To go straight back to the Premier League, which is the best league in the world.

“At club level, there’s nothing higher than playing in the Premier League. I really hope we can achieve that with Southampton, it’s our goal.

“But if it doesn’t happen, we have to sit down and think after the season about what our options are.”

Saints are currently sitting fourth in the Championship, although they have an outside chance of finishing in the top two heading into the last two games of the season.

Everton chiefs will likely be keeping a close eye on their results and, of course, Scienza’s performances.

The Toffees are also eyeing Millwall’s Femi Azeez and Stoke City’s Sorba Thomas, both of whom have been standout performers in the second tier.
