Dermot Gallagher states whether Everton should've had a penalty vs West Ham

Everton were left furious with the officials after the West Ham United defeat.

David Moyes said Everton should’ve had a penalty when West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes handled the ball in the box.

“I’m amazed they’ve not given a penalty-kick for it,” Moyes admitted post-match.

“I think it was VAR who made the decision. I don’t know who was on it today, but they certainly got it wrong, that’s for sure.”

Why has it taken this long for Everton to complain? 🤷‍♂️

“I think most penalty handballs are accidental. Everyone knows if your arm is up and it hits it and stops a shot, it’s going to be given.”

The Premier League’s Match Centre X account explained that VAR thought it was accidental.

“The referee’s call of no penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Fernandes accidentally handled the ball while grappling with an opponent.”
