Thousands upon thousands of Liverpool fans said “no” to multi-year ticket price rises with a stunning visual protest at this weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. Last month the club said it would increase prices linked to inflation for three seasons.
Anfield was awash withShow FSG The Yellow Card protest flyers raised in the 13th minute and less than complimentary chants aimed at the club’s decision makers.
The flyers warned that “Anfield’s Soul Is At Risk” and highlighted 13% rises meaning some match tickets are heading towards £70 and some season tickets more than £1,000.
The message delivered to the club’s leadership couldn’t be clearer.
“Some fans” – is that right Billy?
Thanks for everyones support today. It really is appreciated. Today has shown the majority are against multi year price increases.

The protest was arranged, and the message supported, by a wide array of Liverpool’s supporter organisations – Spirit of Shankly, Liverpool FC Supporters Board, Liverpool FC Women Supporters’ Club, Kop Outs and Spion Kop 1906.
On top of the yellow cards, atmosphere group Spion Kop 1906 chose not to fly the usual pre-match flags and banners on the Kop as an additional statement of protest. Many supporters also chose not to buy food and drink within the stadium.
Liverpool supporters also spoke warmly of the reaction from away fans – with Palace’s travelling supporters showing solidarity on the day and within the stadium.
The kneejerk response of many football clubs to supporters’ groups delivering unwanted messages is often to dismiss the concerns as a loud but minority voice. The response inside Anfield on Saturday showed that Liverpool’s leadership cannot take that approach.
This is clearly a cause which has widespread support amongst Liverpool’s matchgoers – the majority of them working class fans on normal wages being asked to pay ever-increasing prices.
Earlier this season we launched #StopExploitingLoyalty – A Blueprint which makes the point that many supporters feel our supporter culture is under threat from escalating ticket prices, commercialisation and corporate greed (thanks to Spirit of Shankly’s Gareth Roberts for his work on that document).
Previous campaigns around affordability led to the £30 Premier League away ticket price cap and FA moves to keep lower price categories for FA Cup semis and finals. If supporters stand with one voice we can make a difference.
Halt price rises – we want affordable football;
End the attack on concessions;
Protect the matchgoing culture;
