Last night, AC Milan and Juventus faced for the 230th time and it certainly was not one of the best games between them.
By all accounts, Sunday’s game was a bit of a chore for Milan. It was not a positive showing from the Rossoneri, even if they got the result that they aimed to before kick-off. Perhaps you could argue, from that perspective at least, it was a fine display.
Ultimately, though, it was another poor result at home with little entertainment. A lot has been said about the game since, but let’s focus on the stats here and dive into the key ones from the latest Milan vs. Juventus game.

The Key Stats
We start with the main stats. If the game didn’t show it, it was a horrendously low event showing. Indeed, the teams had just more than 1 xG between them, with the Diavolo offering 0.61 to Juventus’ 0.48 xG.
A terrible game from an offensive point of view and with only a third of attempts in the game going on target (18-6) it says it all. However, neither team were throwing everything at it. Instead, they were both happy to soak up pressure and keep the ball.
It was somewhat of a feisty game from a cards perspective. Again, though, it was not enough to make up for the lack of entertainment in the boxes. A poor game of football.

Pulisic’s struggle
This season, Christian Pulisic has scored eight Serie A goals, whilst also contributing three assists. With 1521 minutes played this season, that averages a contribution every 138 minutes.
Last season, he grabbed 20 goals and assists in 2489 minutes and the year before that, 20 contributions in 2620 minutes. With averages of a contribution every 124 minutes, and the year before that 131 minutes, it is by far his worst season in Rossoneri colours, even factoring injuries into his record.
Sunday’s game was his 18th without a goal, including his time with the US national team. It is a record only matched by his time in England and it shows how difficult this moment has been for him. Questions are non stop and the pressure is only rising.
A really unfortunate situation and you’ve got to feel for him, given he is clearly struggling with it.
125 year first
Linking to the last point about a lack of goals, the game on Sunday was the first time that both showings between the two sides have been 0-0 in a season. In more than 100 years of fixtures between the two, this is a rare first.
It also needs mentioning that the last Milan player to score against Juventus in the league was Olivier Giroud, who bagged a goal in the May 2023 fixture. Since then, they have not won a game in Serie A against their rivals.
Again, questions must be asked. It cannot just be a low-entertainment fixture. That benefits no one.
