Report: What sources at Everton are now saying about Thierno Barry amid one goal in last 11

It’s probably fair to say that Everton striker Thierno Barry has not had the first season he’d have been hoping for.

Signed for £27 million last summer from Villarreal, there was genuine excitement about Thierno Barry.

He looked a handful in La Liga, and the expectation was that he’d adapt quite nicely to Premier League football.

There's going to be some different opinions on this! 🫣

But that hasn’t been the case.

Barring a purple patch that lasted a few weeks at the start of 2026, Barry has failed to convince – and has drawn a fair bit of criticism from fans along the way.

That criticism hasn’t always been justified. But certainly, there’ve been too many games where he’s been ineffective for Everton.

Right now, he’s firmly behind Beto in the pecking order, and rather wasted the opportunity he got against West Ham United.

Amid his struggles, there has been word today about the internal feeling about Barry.

Against West Ham, Barry had the chance to get back into the supporters’ good books, having been booed by some against Arsenal in March.

Sadly, there was little threat from the Frenchman and he finished the game without getting on the scoresheet, which has been a running theme for him recently.

Indeed, it’s now just one goal in his last 11 appearances – and this kind of form has really seen some question whether he’ll come good here.

But it does appear that Barry, even now, retains the support of the club.

TEAMtalk have claimed that sources at Everton feel he should be given more time to adapt to the Premier League.

The Athletic have also reported that there is still belief in Barry’s potential behind the scenes.

However, both publications suggest that the club are still likely to make a move for a new striker this summer.

And TEAMtalk do actually talk about three strikers the club might move for. They are Liam Delap, Troy Parrott and Santiago Castro.

All three of those players have already been linked, and it seems Barry – despite having support – may need an impactful finish to the season.

Failure to do so could see Everton seek to move him on. Although, given today’s information, it feels like a loan exit could be more likely than a sale.
