'So important' - Everton man reveals how Blackpool loan set him on the right track

Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall enjoyed a loan stint with Blackpool back in 2020.

Former Blackpool loanee Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admits his short stint at Bloomfield Road gave him the confidence he could make it in senior football.

The 27-year-old spent time on the Fylde Coast back in 2020, where in 10 appearances for the Seasiders, he found the back of the net four times, as well as being on hand with one assist.

During that period, the now-Everton midfielder played under Simon Grayson, David Dunn and Neil Critchley, before the campaign was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The following season, he was loaned out to Luton Town, where his performances earned him four accolades at the Hatters’ end of year awards.

On the back of that, he broke into the Leicester starting XI on a more consistent basis, and went on to score 17 goals and provide 20 assists in 129 outings for the Foxes.

His displays in the 2023/2024 Championship campaign proved particularly impressive, as he earned a place in the second tier’s Team of the Season.

Chelsea swiftly snapped up Dewsbury-Hall for a £30million fee following this, with UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup success coming his way.

Despite featuring 36 times in total for the Blues, his Premier League action was limited to just 13 games, which prompted a move to Everton last summer.

Earlier this week, the Toffees man featured on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football where he emphasised the importance of his time with Blackpool to Jamie Carragher and David Jones.

“I’ve said plenty of times in the past - I was a late developer,” he said.

“I didn’t really start to grow into my body until I was in my late teens. There were times when there were a lot of players in front of me getting more opportunities; I sort of had to wait in the wings and be patient - waiting for nature to take its course.

“Eventually after a long time, I got my first opportunity with my loan at Blackpool. Since then, it went from strength to strength.

“This was an amazing loan for me. I only played 10 games, but I think I scored four goals. It was so important, it was my first experience of first-team football as a young footballer. I went in with big personalities, and it made me grow and gave me the confidence I could deal with it at a senior level.”
