'Important salary': Everton learn target Mario Gila's wage demands as AC Milan eye talks -…

Everton will be in the market for a new central defender this summer and Mario Gila has been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton have done well defensively in 2025/26.

But the need for a new centre-back signing this summer has increased recently.

Which of these players do you want to see Everton SIGN in 2026?

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane – who recently signed a new contract – are both 33 and won’t be around at the club for much longer.

And Jarrad Branthwaite’s fitness issues are well documented at this point.

Earlier this year, Everton were credited with an interest in Lazio centre-back Mario Gila.

He’s not signing a new deal with the Italian giants and will therefore move on this summer -and now Everton have learned what kind of wages he’s after.

As per Matteo Moretto, Gila is looking for wages of around €4 million per year net.

The journalist said on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, as quoted by Milan News: “Gila, from what I know, is asking for an important salary, around €4 million net per season, so he would be one of the highest paid at Milan.

“I can also tell you that in these weeks, Milan will begin to talk officially with Lazio.”

Milan have been linked with Gila for a while, and appear to be the main contenders to sign the Spaniard at the moment.

There is potentially good news for Everton though, with Milan News explaining that negotiations may not be straightforward due to cold relations between AC Milan Igli Tare and his former club Lazio.

It’s also stated that Claudio Lotito, Lazio’s owner and president, is ‘never easy’ to deal with.

The €4 million per year net that Gila is asking for equates to around £65,000 per week.

If Everton offered him that much, he would be in the top half of earners in the squad.

Gila looks a solid player

With Everton’s need for a new centre-back increasing, Gila is well worth keeping tabs on.

He’s been a part of nine league clean sheets this season for Lazio, and has stood out several times.

He has four Player of the Match awards on WhoScored (most of any Lazio player), who also have him ranked as the third-best Lazio player this season in Serie A in terms of average match rating.

Since he’ll only have one year left on his contract this summer, Lazio will be forced to accept an offer that is likely below his true market value.

Last month, Italian publication Il Messaggero raved over Gila, stating he’d been in outstanding form for Lazio.

So potentially, he is someone for David Moyes to look out for as Everton seek to bolster their pool of centre-back options.
