Report: Everton now watching striker likened to Haaland as Thierno Barry struggles

Everton look almost certain to sign a new striker this summer.

Thierno Barry continues to struggle for the Toffees, once again drawing a blank in the 2-1 defeat against West Ham, having also delivered a miserable cameo in the Merseyside derby which irritated fans.

Beto has – in contrast to the Frenchman – performed well in 2026 with six goals in his last ten appearances, but has just over 12 months left on his contract and is approaching his thirties.

A number of strikers have already been linked to Everton – such as Liam Delap and Romelu Lukaku – but TEAMtalk now mention a new name in Ayase Ueda.

Where does Thierno Barry go from here? This Everton fan has had ENOUGH! 😡

Everton scouting Ayase Ueda

Graeme Bailey now writes that Everton are monitoring the Japan international ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Ueda has shone for Feyenoord so far this season with 25 goals in just 29 Eredivisie appearances, form which has drawn the attention of Tottenham, Brighton and Leeds as well as the Toffees.

On the topic of Tottenham, the north Londoners are advancing in pursuit of another Everton target in Marco Senesi – although it will all depend on whether Spurs manage to stay in the Premier League.

TEAMtalk do not state how much Feyenoord – who are set to release Raheem Sterling after interest from Everton – want for the Japanese striker, but with over 24 months remaining on his contract, the Dutch side are in a strong negotiating position.

For those unaware of the type of player Ueda is, a detailed report from Total Football Analysis in December 2021 claimed that he is 84% similar to Erling Haaland, with data showing the Feyenoord No.9 “offers a wide range of movements, both with spaces and inside the box, can score with both feet and his head” – labelling the man born in Mito a “complete” goalscorer.

Four games to go, have Everton blown their hopes of European? 🫣

With the aforementioned Delap focused on making it at Chelsea and not currently interested in a move to Everton, be sure to keep a close eye on the situation involving Ueda.
