Tottenham battle Leeds United and Everton to sign 26-goal bagsman

Tottenham have a huge summer ahead of them, and that's regardless of whether they are relegated or not. Spurs are still two points from safety, even after their big win over Wolves last time out, and relegation is certainly on the cards.

The North London club has found itself in this situation for reasons aplenty, and recruitment and investment are huge factors. Spurs must begin to put things right on that front this summer, and Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda could be the first step.

Recruitment has been poor in recent times, with plenty of misses and a real lack of investment, especially when you consider Tottenham are one of the most profitable clubs in world football.

If Spurs survive this season, it will surely serve as a serious wake-up call and a near miss that pushes the club into significant investment this summer, while relegation would be very different.

Relegation would mean a wake-up call of its own, but the financial situation would likely mean the club has to put together a smart recruitment strategy for the coming years to get out of the Championship and then succeed again in the top flight.

Tottenham consider Ayase Ueda a fix to their goal-scoring concern

If Tottenham do stay up, they need to find a dangerous frontman having failed to get a good return from the likes of Dominic Solanke, Randal Kolo Muani and others.

One contender to fix that issue is said to be Feyenoord Ueda, who has been in superb form in Eredivisie. The striker has scored 26 goals in 38 games across all competitions, and he leads the league for scoring.

Ueda actually struggled for a couple of years after his £8.7million arrival from Cercle Brugge. But he has kicked on this season, and the 27-year-old is now said to be attracting real interest from Premier League clubs, with TeamTalk reporting that Spurs, Leeds United and Everton are interested in landing his signature this summer.

Ueda will reportedly command a fee between £25million and £30million, and Tottenham's ability to pull off a deal will of course be down to whether they can stay in the Premier League. Spurs will almost certainly be the Championship's biggest spenders if they do go down, but £25million plus deals are going to be off the table.

But in case they do manage Premier League survival, Spurs are said to have conducted 'background checks' on the player ahead of a possible deal, and they are said to have been scouting the player for some time.
